MEET THE MAKER BEHIND WILD SPRUCE KNITS
Martha Rosenstein
OWNER | DESIGNER | MAKER
Hello! I’m Martha, I’m the owner, designer, and maker of Wild Spruce Knits. As a lifelong Alaskan, I’ve always loved to spend time in the outdoors. As a kid, the majority of my outdoor experience was at our family’s homestead. I did a lot of fishing (you catch it, you eat it was my grandma’s rule), berry picking, and playing in the woods. I spent my childhood winters skiing, sledding, and building snow forts in my front yard.
As I got older and spent more time pursuing my education, my time in the outdoors became less frequent. I’ve always been a runner and used that as a way to spend time outside (I’d rather poke my eyes out than run on a treadmill).
After a lot of years of school and a lot of years of working, I became a family nurse practitioner. I absolutely love helping my patients live happier and healthier lives, but after 2020, I decided I needed something creative in my life.
My grandma (the same one that made me eat all the fish I caught) taught me how to knit when I was pretty young. I knit my way through college and grad school (it’s a great way to keep your hands busy so you can pay better attention) and have gifted many a knit pair of socks, hats, scarves, and mittens to friends and family over the years.
I decided to combine two things that I love, knitting and the outdoors, and turn it into a business!
When I’m not knitting, you can find me hiking with my dogs, picking berries in the woods, or training for my next ultramarathon.
Thank you so much for being here!
